FAQ — Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for answers about saving Instagram photos and videos? Below are the questions people ask us most often about ClipStash, along with straight answers.

What is ClipStash and why would I need it?

ClipStash lets you save a public Instagram video, reel, IGTV clip, photo, or carousel as a file on your own device — no app install, no Instagram login. It's built for keeping an offline copy of something you want to watch or view again later, without depending on your internet connection or Instagram's own app.

Why people use it:

  • Paste a link and get a working download in seconds — no redirects or waiting
  • Works for standard video posts, Reels, IGTV, and photos
  • Carousel (multi-photo/video) posts are supported — every slide gets its own download link
  • Downloaded video and audio keep their original quality — nothing is re-compressed by us
  • No account, no ads intercepting your download, no software to install

A note to rights holders

ClipStash does not store copies of Instagram media or host a library of links on its own servers — each file is fetched fresh from Instagram at the moment you request it. If you believe your copyrighted content is being misused by someone through this tool, the appropriate place to report that is directly to Instagram/Meta, since they control the source content and the accounts posting it.

Where are the downloaded files stored?

Downloads are saved wherever your browser normally saves files — usually a Downloads folder on desktop, or your Files app on iPhone. You can check your browser's download history (in Chrome, that's Ctrl+J) to find exactly where a file landed if you're not sure.

What quality are the downloaded videos and photos?

Whatever quality the original creator uploaded to Instagram — that's what you get. ClipStash doesn't re-encode, compress, or otherwise alter the file; it simply fetches the same version Instagram itself would show you.

Is it allowed to download private Instagram posts?

No — ClipStash only works on public posts. If an account is private, its content isn't accessible through this tool at all, and you'll get an error rather than a download. For public content, saving a copy for personal use is generally fine, but redistributing someone else's content (especially commercially) without permission can still violate copyright law and Instagram's own terms — that responsibility is yours, not ClipStash's.

What operating system or device do I need?

Any of them. ClipStash is a website, not an app — it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, in any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge). There's nothing to install; you just need enough free storage on your device for the file you're saving.

Can I download several posts at once?

Each request handles one Instagram link at a time — except for carousel posts, where a single link containing multiple photos or videos returns a separate download button for every slide in that post. To save several different posts, paste and download each link one after another.
